Chapter 17
Paul's POV
The time has finally come, yes we completed our 4th album, but that's not all! It's finally time for us all to head to America! The lads and I were very excited and so were the girls. We packed our bags with everything we were told to bring and brought them out to a car. Brian helped us get organized in the car and we took off to the airport.
I sat in the back with Ringo, George, and Lilie, and Ringo couldn't calm down his enthusiasm about going to America. "Ringo we get it already!" John heckled from the front. "Oh let him have his excitement, I bet you feel the same too," Lilie told him. Once we arrived, we got on our plane and it flew us to New York. We checked into the hotel after that and collapsed on the beds.
Rebecca and Lilie had a room of their own of course. I could tell they were super nervous to do this performance with us, but I bet it will be fine. The night went by quickly and I didn't really get a lot of sleep, I was too antsy to even stay still. "Macca, did you even sleep at all?" John questioned me when he saw me. "Nope, too excited," I said back. "Just don't fall asleep on the stage, that would be embarrassing and we wouldn't have a bass player," George pointed out.
We got dressed into new suits that Brian bought for us and we went to see if the girls were awake. They opened the door immediately after we knocked. "Wow you girls get ready fast," I said. "We were up for a little while and decided to get ready, let's go!" Rebecca said excitedly and led the way through the hallway. People were lined up with posters, cameras, and screaming outside the hotel, so we stopped in our tracks.
"How do we get around them?" Lilie asked aloud. "Run for it," John told her. We all grabbed hands and ran right outside the doors into a waiting car. It drove off very quickly and the screaming crowd was following, but they couldn't catch up to the car. We all breathed a sigh of relief. "To the stage!" Ringo said while pointing to the front window. "Yes Ringo," I laughed. We arrived and wow was it big. We went through the doors and looked around, it was amazing.
Lilie's POV
I can't believe this is happening. We're really at the Ed Sullivan entrance to his stage! We were lead backstage and the Beatle's instruments found their way back here as well. I peered through the curtain and there were like thousands of people out there, all screaming and crying. The lads got their instruments out and began tuning. "You scared?" Paul asked me. "Yes, I can feel myself shaking," I told him while nervously laughing.
"You'll do fine, I promise you," he told me. He also took my hand and kissed it to possibly calm the nerves. I blushed a small bit and the hand he kissed actually stopped shaking. I saw George do the same to Rebecca and she was also blushing a little. I went over to her and laughed. "Beatle pep talks actually help," I said to her. "They do," she replied. Soon we heard Ed Sullivan's voice on a microphone. It's show time!
"Ladies and gentleman, the Beatles!" The curtain opened and there we stood in the middle of the stage with arrows pointing towards us. They played the starting cords to "I wanna hold your hand" and we began singing. I felt so alive in that moment. The fans just kept screaming and it was a little hard to hear the music, but we kept going. Once the song ended, we all took a bow. They just screamed louder after that.
They then began playing "This boy." John did that solo rather well and he looked proud of himself. We finished and again took a bow. We played about 2 more songs and then Ed Sullivan called us over to have a little chat on the stage. "How's it feel singing with the Beatles here?" He asked me and Rebecca. "It's amazing!" I answered him. He smiled at us both. "Fantastic, ladies and gentleman, the Beatles will be back again for 2 more showings and so will these lovely girls!" He told the crowd. We waved and walked off the stage.
"That went by so well!" Paul said happily. "You two did amazing!" George told us and hugged us both. "Thanks," we both replied. As we were backstage, a girl came in and her face was very lit up with excitement. "Hi! I just wanted to say that you all were awesome on that stage and I'm a really big fan!" She said. "What's your name?" Ringo asked her. "Eden," she replied. "Well Eden, thank you so much for coming out here to see us," George told her.
"Anytime," she said. "Would you like to hang out with us?" I asked her because she seemed really nice. "Yes!" she said excitedly and we led her out of the stage area with us. We returned to the hotel to quickly change and headed to a nearby club. Well it was a small club because there weren't a lot of people out tonight. So there actually wasn't anybody in there but the workers.
We sat down and I ordered a water because I was very thirsty. Rebecca and Eden did the same. "So how long have you known about us?" John asked Eden. "For a long time, I've listened to your music a lot and I just love it so much! I saved enough money to travel here and watch you guys live on the Ed Sullivan show because I heard you would be on it," she explained. "That's so cool!" Ringo smiled. "When you two girls joined as well, I was so happy for you both, you're so talented!" She said to me and Rebecca. "Thank you!" I replied to her compliments.
"Who's your favorite Beatle?" John just had to ask. Paul perked up a tiny bit because he thinks she might say him. "George!" She smiled after a little thinking. "Awwwww," Paul faked his sadness. "Calm down Macca, there's loads of girls out there for you," John patted his back. Ringo and George laughed at him and Eden hugged George. He hugged back and she turned very red. "You're very adorable you know," George told her when he saw her face. She turned a much darker shade of red and he giggled. The others did too and it was just such a cute sight.
He let go of her and her face turned back to her natural color. "Can you sing?" Ringo wanted to know. "Er, I'm not really much of a singer, but I can play the guitar," she answered. "Ooh, can you show us?" Paul was eager. "I don't have a guitar with me, but I do carry around my lucky guitar picks." Eden took out a guitar pick and it said The Beatles on it. "I love it!" John told her.
Ringo saw a guitar hanging on the wall and asked if they can use it. The workers allowed it and helped him get it down. He handed the guitar to Eden and she began playing a few notes to tune it. She then began playing a song really slowly and we all listened. Once she stopped playing, we knew she was finished. We all clapped in amazement. "You've got a lot talent!" Rebecca told her. "Thank you!" She stood up and bowed like a Beatle. I think we just made her day!
