A Spark: Part 18
She knew it. The behavior change, that feeling, that look in his eye...she knew something was off. The morning she woke up proved her theory.
Jesse felt a coolness settle over her, like the warmth had been sucked out and replaced with nothing.
She yawned and opened her eyes, light from the window threatening to blind her. She blinked, and realization slapped her in the face.
She sat up from bed, senses alert and focused.
The opposite side of the bed was empty, except for a single note.
Something moved inside her, something stirred. Like a strand of happiness and hope that ripped from the blade of the words. Her hands trembled as she picked up the note, tears getting ready to flow.
I'm sorry
That was all that it said. Two words. Nothing about how he left, where he went, why. Green eyes burned through the paper.
That was when it started. When it happened. How her heart broke.
Jesse snapped.
****************************
She didn't know how long she spent crying, sobbing, racking herself back and forth to shake off the pain. Nothing helped.
How could he do this to her? Gain her trust and then throw it back in her face. Saying that he'll never leave but disappears. Loving her with all his heart and then breaks it.
Days, she spent like this. A miserable mess that needed to be cleaned up.
Her friends found out the next day, wondering why she was cooped up in her own house. They hugged her, gave her gifts, told him that he'd come back.
But she'd learned her lesson. Those words were all lies.
One week, she spent, alone.
One week, she spent, wishing for happiness.
One week, she spent, trying to piece her broken heart together.
One week, thinking he was dead.
******************************
She knew why he left her.
She wasn't good enough for him, she was never good enough for him. He'd only used her and then left when she was through.
Those words, those-promises. They were all lies. Ugly truths covered up by pretty fake disguises.
Each word stabbed her, cut through her heart like a knife and left her broken.
But maybe it was meant to be. Maybe this was her destiny.
Bloody, broken, shattered.
A dying soul.
