Never a Peaceful Moment
N: After a couple hours, when the sun had been up for a while, voices could be heard down the corridor. As they approached the dining room, it became clear that it was Helena and Niko's voices, and the former was telling the latter about the wonders of cereal.
"It was so nice," she giggled, "and it was like a cold soup."
"That sounds weird," the Saxon frowned.
"Just trust me. Derogan made it for me and we can see if he's in here-"
The young girl froze the moment she saw Stella, unfamiliar with the country, and just stepped closer to the Saxon boy, who was staring at the country.
"Who are you," he asked.
M: Stella turned to the children and smiled, crouching down so she wouldn't be so scary, "Hey there, my name is Stella, my dad is Mandara Army. You guys are Helena and Nikolaus aren't you, I guess that means we're technically cousins."
She reached into her pocket and put on her eye patch, hoping that covering her entity eye would help make her look less intimidating, "you can come over, I don't bite."
N: The pair did take a couple of steps, and while Helena was a bit more cautious, Niko tilted his head in confusion.
"You don't look like Zalia and Johann," he bluntly stated, and after a moment he added, "but you're nicer than Zalia."
Helena nodded before turning to Stella, "could you help us make cereal? Niko needs to try it," which got a grumble from the Saxon.
M: "Sure, I can help with that," the country agreed, "and I get what you mean about Zal, I promise that she'll soften up the longer you guys are here."
She stood and went to the kitchen to make the children some cereal, as well as an egg sandwich for herself.
"I'm much older than my siblings, so that's why I look different," Stella explained the previous statement, "granted Eclipse is technically older than me but we all agree that he is the second oldest of us, the twins are the youngest, and because they are twins they look the same, does that about clarify things?"
N: "I guess," Niko shrugged, "but Onkel Johann said that Johann and Zalia's flag is a mix of Derogan and Belarus, but your flag is different-"
"Remember Papa also said that countries can change their flags, just like what Uncles Derogan and Mandara did," Helena interrupted, "so maybe Stella likes blue and yellow."
Niko didn't say anything, which the young girl took as a cue to usher him to the dining room once Stella had made herself her sandwich, eager for her friend to try out cereal for the first time.
M: All Stella could do was just smile awkwardly as Niko tried to make sense of her flag, she really didn't want to tell them why her flag was different, she prayed to god that they wouldn't go poking around in a countries book or something. She quietly followed them out to the table and just as silently ate her food, feeling a little self-conscious now and didn't really feel like talking anymore.
N: While Stella ate, Niko, after having to deal with Helena's pestering, finally gave in and tasted his cereal, and much to Ella's delight, he loved it. The pair then just quietly ate their breakfast, enjoying what they believed was essentially a delicacy.
After an hour or so, Johann walked into the room with his usual cup of coffee, although he was initially confused at the sight of the country.
"This is Stella; she's Derogan's daughter," Helena quickly piped up when she saw her father, "and she made us cereal."
"Cereal, huh," the Mandorian chuckled as he made his way to the table, "and ja, Eclipse mentioned you." Johann smiled as he held out his hand, "it's nice to meet you."
M: Stella smiled and shook his hand, "the pleasure is mine, it's been a dream of mine to meet you ever since I was little, you really are a hero in this family. You inspired me to become a militant, your bravery and will to protect your family pushed me through the hardships to become who I am today, I really thank you."
N: "I mean...I wouldn't see myself as a hero of sorts, but it's nice to know that I was able to inspire someone," Johann spoke as he sat down.
"But Papa, you are a hero," Helena proclaimed, and when her father protested, "I don't care, you are."
"Fine, if you believe so," the man chuckled.
M: Stella also chuckled, happy that the debate of her flag was momentarily forgotten, so she decided to keep up the conversation.
"I believe you are too, Uncle and Dad have told us all sorts of stories about when you were kids together, the good and the embarrassing. Like the time you tamed a dragon and defeated the mad wizard controlling it, that was so cool, I almost couldn't believe what I was hearing."
N: "'The mad wizard', you say," Johann chuckled as he sipped his coffee, "well, I would definitely say that Ed was mad, and knew magic, so he would qualify as a mad wizard, but it wasn't me who stopped him."
"So who did," Niko asked.
"I believe it was the High Priestess at the time," the Mandorian answered, although he did have to think for a while since it all happened when he was 12, "she broke the stick that was controlling Edel, and when she did, he collapsed."
He smiled a bit at the memory, "although, now thinking about it, I would understand that people would think I tamed Edel because he came to a halt in front of me, but he was always a large puppy at heart so it didn't take long to become his friend."
M: Stella nodded along, she was a little disappointed that the story wasn't as epic as the Mandarian brothers made it out to be, but she understood that the passage of time could change stories.
They all chatted as the rest of the household woke up one by one, Rowen and Wolfgang adding their own stories to the mix. Soon Mandara, MA, and Stella headed off to work, and Poldara went to his office room to do his work too, so it was just MC and Adira to watch over the others.
N: "There you are," Johann sighed in relief before pointing at his friend, "Wolfe is practically planning out his entire future, and I want to share my misery."
"If we're going to live out our lives here," Wolfgang began, "Rowen, Johann and myself would need some sort of education and qualifications, right?"
"I was able to work right away when I was in Britain and when I was a teen in Mandoria," the Mandorian pointed out.
"You had it easy because you were accepted into the Mandorian royal family at the tender age of 12," the Saxon responded, "things were practically handed to you, and you had access to the thing many people didn't have: education. It was a bit different for the rest of us common folk. And besides, our time is different to now, and we don't know what people would expect from us."
M: "Oh good lord," MC groaned, "why do I have to be the one on teacher duty, I barely get by as it is," he rubbed his face in exasperation and sighed, "alright, alright, I'll see what I can do, let me get a drink first, there is no way I'm doing this sober."
"Daddy say Papi can't drink around Uncle Wolfy," Adira told him, "he say it bad influence."
"Oh yeah, well daddy can suck my dick, drunk teacher is best teacher."
The militant left and came back with a half jar of what looked like a clear liquid, which he then downed in one go and said, "alright ladies, class is in session, let's teach you how to live in this day in age."
N: Wolfgang just eyed the empty bottle that was in the American's hand, and Johann caught him staring and snapped him out of it.
"Don't you even think about it," Johann warned.
"If he can drink, why can't I," the Saxon asked.
"The last thing you'll be doing would be to take a sip of alcohol," the Mandorian frowned, "now sit down and listen to MC."
The other just rolled his eyes and sat down, his arms crossed as he was clearly annoyed that he was being babied.
M: "Papi can't drink, but he does anyway," Adira explained, "Daddy say he no allowed to so you not influence badly, which mean you can't go to Papi's moon shed either."
"Sweety, stop telling them Papi's secrets," MC chuckled, "but she's right, if you happen upon a beat-up shed in the woods out back, please don't go in, that's where I make my moonshine, I'll let you fellas try some at some point, but I don't think you're quite ready for that hillbilly springwater."
With that out of the way, MC walked away again to grab his computer and a projector, hooked the two up, and pulled down a projector screen on one wall of the dining room, hoping that the lessons wouldn't take too long.
N: "Don't get any ideas," Johann whispered to Wolfgang as he glanced at him.
"Too much effort," the other shrugged, then the both of them fell silent as they listened to MC and watched.
After an hour, they decided to take a break from speed running the 21th century, and with a glass of water in hand, the Saxon commented, "it's like a more complex, more integrated version of society that BE thought of when he envisioned how his inventions would affect the world."
"It is," Johann grumbled, "he practically revolutionised and changed every industry, however, nowadays you have more freedom with what you can do."
"I guess people who grew up knowing all this have an advantage over us," the Saxon hummed, "and we're basically at the same level as children."
M: "Well everyone starts somewhere, you guys will understand it more and more as you go through life," MC reassured them, "There are almost 200 countries in this world, some still do things the old-fashioned way, there's a whole ethnicity in America called the Amish that do things like back when you all were kids."
He took a swig of non-alcoholic cider, and yawned, "gosh I am not meant to be a teacher, my brain has already melted and I'm not even the one doing the learning, we should hire someone who could give you guys proper lessons and not ask questions as to why you need them."
N: "I mean, if there's someone who could understand our position and situation, sure," Wolfgang shrugged, "but otherwise, I'm not sure. I'm not particularly fond of being retaught something a child would learn."
"But isn't that the level you said we were," Johann pointed out, then he sighed, "at least Niko and Helena would be able to go to school. They'll be taught with people their age who know as much about the world around them as they would."
"They're smarter than the kids their age, that's for sure," the Saxon responded, "but ja, they're lucky to be brought back as kids."
M: "Well, this is Mandara, it's one of those places where you expect the abnormal, so I don't think anyone would question your situation too much," MC shrugged, "and you don't have to learn everything that the children do, we'll tell them what you already know and they'll customize the lessons for you."
N: "That's good to know," Wolfgang nodded, "and speaking about lessons, Johann and I have been told that we would need to attend our kids to the school nearby to enrol them."
"Yeah, I have no idea on how that would work," Johann sighed, "back in our time, school wasn't really a thing, and Helena couldn't go to one even if she wanted to. Whoever you're hiring to teach us better be good...and patient."
M: "Mandara can show you how, it's actually pretty easy once you get started, but you don't necessarily have to," MC stated, "you already know that my little munchkin is homeschooled, and Poldara and I wouldn't mind being Niko and Ella's teachers. But homeschooling does come at a cost, Adira is learning all by herself from her parents, so she doesn't get the same social interaction as public school kids do, and as she grows up it's going to be harder for her to interact with people."
He took out his phone and scanned through his calendar, "I mean, it's May, you got till about January next year to decide, so take your time and observe from the outside, maybe we can set up meetings with a few parents whose children go there, there really is no rush in anything."
N: "Sure...plenty of time," Johann muttered, mainly to reassure himself, so Wolfgang rested his hand on the other's shoulder.
"It's fine, don't stress about it," the Saxon reassured him, "with more than half the year to sort our lives out, you'll do your best for Ella."
"Ok," the Mandorian mumbled, "I'll relax."
M: "Cheer up, old timer, I know it's hard for a human to believe that there is plenty of time, the eternals call you guys short lives for a reason, but that just means you get to make the most of the time you have, countryhumans don't get that luxury," MC preached.
Just then a faint tune began to play, it sounded like it was coming from outside, and it caused Adira to perk up and practically bolt towards the door.
"Perfect timing, I know just the thing to cheer y'all up," the militant chuckled, "follow me, let's introduce ya to the magnificent invention that is ice cream."
N: "Are you talking about those really cold creams that can be in different flavours," Johann asked as the pair walked with MC, "we know what it is, it's just that ice cream was really expensive, and BE would sometimes serve it as a desert, but we rarely ate it."
"Heinrich made the mistake of taking a large bite out of it," the Saxon chuckled, "but ja, it was a delicacy."
Now that they had reached the door, Niko and Helena had decided to join them too and waited for them, wondering what the commotion was about.
M: "Don't blame me for not knowing, I wasn't exactly around then," the militant stated, "but I'm sure you will still be surprised at how much it most likely changed since then."
They headed outside and walked to the source of the noise, a small box truck with painted ice cream cones on it, there was already a group of kids and a few adults waiting for their turn, including Sarah and Zack from the school.
N: The moment she saw them, Helena ran up to them with a huge smile on her face, although Johann did warn her not to cut in line. Luckily for her, Zack and Sarah were at the back, so they queued up behind them.
"Hi Sarah. Hi Zack," she waved, "are you getting ice cream too?"
"Nein, they're waiting for the fun of it," Niko rolled his eyes, not particularly wanting to see Ella around Zack.
"Nikolaus, sei nicht unhöflich (don't be rude)," Wolfgang spoke sternly before softening up and greeting the others' parents, "sorry about that, your children gave ours a tour the other day."
"And this one is excited to see her new friends, aren't you Ella," Johann chuckled as he gave his daughter a quick squeeze on the shoulder.
M: "Hey guys, it's nice to see you again," Sarah greeted cheerfully, Zach simply waving, "How have you been since yesterday, have you decided if you want to come to school with us yet?"
Before they could answer, a yelp sounded from Zack as he recognized Johann and Wolfgang, he even took out their corresponding toys to compare them.
"You're parents are THE Johann and Wolfgang, why didn't you tell us!"
"Zach don't be ridiculous," one of the parents told him, "those are just animated characters based on people from the 18th century."
"But look at them, they look exactly the same," the boy insisted."
N: Johann and Wolfgang glanced at each other, wondering how they were going to get around this, and although the latter didn't want to lie to the kid, he felt like he had to.
"Well, it seems like our forefather's genes are still strong to this day," the Saxon laughed it off, "and it doesn't help that we share the same name too, but I've got to admit," he leaned closer to closely observe the Wolfgang toy, "the likeness is uncanny."
"If so, do you still share the original Wolfgang's hard-headedness, Wolfe," Johann smirked, which got a glare from the other.
"Shut up, Kress."
While the adults were talking, Niko just turned to Zack, "if you want, you could ask them any question you want. They might not be the Johann and Wolfgang you think they are, but they are the next best thing."
M: Zach being the gullible child he was, believed Johann and Wolfgang and let out a small "aww" that they weren't his heroes, causing MC to chuckle a little, but he appreciated Niko's bright side view.
It eventually came to their turn and they picked out what they wanted, MC offering his recommendations to the Mandorians and Saxons. Once that was taken care of, the militant took this opportunity to offer Sarah's and Zach's parents to come over for a visit to talk about the school and how life was in the neighborhood, and so the children could play for a bit.
"I've always wanted to see inside the Mandarian estate," Sara declared, "almost every kid in the neighborhood does, there are so many rumors and stories about it."
N: "There are stories," Niko repeated in surprise, "when we were there, they didn't tell us about any stories."
Helena shook her head, "what do people think is in there?"
M: "The usual gossip of ghosts and stuff, but them being countryhumans makes people like to assume dumb things about them," Sara stated, "the adults always like to say that countryhumans don't care about humans since we don't live as long as them, usually we're not allowed to play with anyone that lives there."
When the parents realized that the children were exposing the neighborhood secrets, they declined MC's offer and quickly led Sara and Zack away.
"Yep, now you know why we homeschool Adi," the American sighed, "Mandara said that people used to treat his family like gods, yeah, they don't do that anymore, think about the British humans back in your day but slightly worse."
N: "But Uncle Mandara and Uncle Derogan and everyone at home aren't bad," Helena huffed, "they care about humans. Why don't people see that?"
"We see them differently, dear," Johann sighed as he held her hand, "we're family to them, all of us, but the Mandarians don't see them as family. Also, it's been three centuries since we last saw them and they have changed, so the people's opinion of them can change too."
The young girl didn't comment as she watched Zack and Sara walk away with their parents, "but...but does this mean we won't be able to see them again?"
Before Johann could reply, Niko decided to run after the Mandarians, although making sure his ice cream didn't fall, and quickly called out to them before coming to a halt.
"Is it possible that we can see Zack and Sara," he asked the parents, "we just moved here and they're the only people we've actually talked to, and my friend already sees them as friends. We don't have to meet up at the estate; we could go to the park and play there. Helena really likes the ducks there.
"But it's fine if you say no," he continued , lowering his head, "you might be busy and can't see us, but we don't have anything else to do. Please, can we see our friends?"
M: The mother of one of the children smiled and patted his head, "Of course you can, dear, we won't stop you from playing with each other, I'm glad to see you're settling in well here."
The woman's husband kneeled down to Niko's level, "We have nothing against the Mandarian family, they are very good people, it's just that some of the parents are a little wary about letting their kids play with ... well ... we don't really know what she is, but she's definitely not countryhuman. That thing is very dangerous, small pets have been going missing every once in a while and turn up mutilated and partly eaten, though we can't rule out that it wasn't wolves. What really has people on edge is that it bit one of those full-time entity's about half a year ago, I think it was European Union, and he nearly died from some sort of venom or infection."
"Just keep a close eye on that thing, kid, definitely don't let it near your sister when you're not around," the other father stated, "and don't tell the Mandarians what we told you, it's better if they don't know for now, we don't want that little gremlin creature coming after anyone after all."
N: The Saxon boy just stared at them, completely bewildered with what he heard, and the initial shock quickly turned into anger.
"Did you just call her a 'thing'," Niko spat, "first of, Helena isn't my sister, and second, that 'gremlin creature' has a name, she's the kind Adira. You accuse her with baseless claims, and call her act of protecting someone she cares about as an act of terror. From the little I've heard about EU, he deserved it."
When one of the parents tried to reach out and calm him down, he took a step back and doubled down. "Whether she's a countryhuman or not, she's better than any of you, and I hate you for making her less than the wonderful person she is. I won't tell what you said because I don't want to hurt her feelings, but I'll remember what you said."
Once he was done with the parents, he glared at Zack and Sara, "if after this point, the both of you don't end up meeting us, blame it on your scheisse parents."
Marching off, frustrated with what the Mandarians said, and grabbed Helena's hand, "let's go home. Diese Leute müssen wieder verletzt werden (these people need to be hurt again)."
Confused with what happened, she desperately looked back at Sara and Zack and waved goodbye. Meanwhile Wolfgang caught the tail end of what his son said, and it ticked him off.
"What did you just say," he called out, but when Niko didn't answer and kept on walking, he quickly walked after him to the estate.
Johann sighed as he turned to MC, neither having heard what the Mandarians said, "I think it's time we head back."
M: MC nodded, picking up his daughter and staring coldly at the parents, he didn't need to hear what they said to know what they said, it was hard not to hear the rumors in such a tight community.
"I gotta say, that kid has some anger issues, has he always been like this," he asked Johann when they were inside, "maybe we should have him join Eclipse with his anger management classes."
N: "Maybe," Johann hummed as they walked along, "it's like his adult behaviours are seeping into his child body.
"I don't know what my brothers said about Nikolaus, but he wasn't like this as a child," the Mandorian continued, "albeit, he didn't really listen to his parents at times, but he didn't lash out. Although, as he grew older, he would teach his sister and Helena as he got to go to school but they couldn't. Whenever any of the other boy's found out about what he did, he always defended them, whether it was verbally or physically. Things only got worse when Wolfgang passed, and he heard of what the soldiers actually thought about his father; a Prussian knight among British ones."
When they had reached the estate, they could hear Wolfgang calling out Niko's name, so they carefully entered so as not to disturb the angered Saxon.
"He cared for the people around him," Johann concluded, "he...he just had unconventional ways of dealing with people who crossed him."
"Do you know where Niko could be," the Saxon asked them, "because he and I need to talk about his behaviour and what he said."
"Why don't you calm down first," Johann frowned, pointing at a nearby sofa, "that's no way to face a child, and you're scaring my daughter too."
Helena slowly walked up to her father, still licking her ice cream and whispered, "I don't know where Niko went. He ran off."
M: "Well, considering he did this yesterday, I'd have to say he's probably on the roof again," MC stated, "but Jo is right, let's give you both a couple of minutes to cool off so he doesn't get too heated up."
He set down his daughter, who immediately ran off to find Niko, and sure enough, he was on the roof again.
"Niki ... they is right, about me," she claimed, "they right to be afraid, I is dangerous, they just protect they families, they not bad people."
N: Nikolaus knew that he would be quickly found, but he went to the roof anyway. It was weirdly calming for the boy, a place away from the horrible people below.
"They are bad people if people call a child a monster," he replied, glancing at Adira, "and never believe what they say about you. Other people don't define who you are, and I'm sure as hell you won't agree with the people who made you, so don't agree with the people who mock you."
M: "I not agree, I say they are telling truth, they not call me monster, they just not know what I am, I not know what I am either," she said, coming closer to her friend and sitting next to him, she then offered him her ice cream since he dropped his when he marched away from the parents.
"I hunt animals at night," she admitted, "I made to hunt, so have urges, mice in house not always enough, must hunt and eat animals so I not hurt family. I try hunt EU too, no one like him, I thought it fine to hunt him, got in big trouble after, EU scare of me now."
Adira began to preen one of her wings as she continued, "neighbors smart to be scare of me, I no know if pets will be not enough soon, maybe I start hunt and eat kids, I no want to do that, they smart for stay away from me."
N: "People can change," Niko frowned, "you can change, yet you're still believing whatever trash your creators said to you, and you can't see that. I don't care if you hunt; you should tell your fathers that what you're getting isn't enough, but I refuse to believe that you will actually eat kids."
After taking a lick out of the ice cream, he turned to Adira and stared coldly at her, "would you eat me?"
M: Adira was taken aback by the question, it actually took a moment for her to even register it before she tried to answer.
Keyword "tried", she opened her mouth to answer but no words came out, they got stuck in her throat and she didn't know what to say, and that scared her. She whined and cried a bit, was she already losing it, did he just confirm that she was going to start attacking people, if she couldn't say no to him then who's to say she could say no to strangers.
N: Niko just turned away from her, saddened by her response and now awkwardly sitting there as he didn't know how to comfort her. Eventually, after the lack of an answer was painfully obvious, he decided to climb back indoors and find another place to camp.
Luckily enough, he came across MC as he was leaving his hiding spot. "Adira is in the middle of a crisis," was all he said to the American before walking away, enjoying his ice cream.
M: MC stood there in confusion as he watched Niko walk away, dumbfounded at the boy's random comment, so he went off to check on Adira and see what was going on.
Rowen walked by just then and stood in Niko's path, arms crossed, "Nikolaus, are we going to talk about what happened with you and Sara's and Zach's parents, you made quite a rude and uncalled for scene back there."
N: Niko just looked up to the man and mockingly licked a bit of his ice cream.
"They called Adira a 'thing' and a 'gremlin creature'," he responded, then he shrugged, "they deserved it."
M: "Even if they did, it wasn't your place to say so," Rowen scolded, "Everyone is entitled to their opinions, no matter how wrong or right they are, maybe they have a reason that they see Adira in such a way, what's important is how we treat her, not how anyone else does."
He put a hand on the boy's shoulder, "technically speaking, you are in the same generation as Poldara and Derogan's children, so that makes Adira your niece. Adira doesn't care about what people think of her, all she wants is a loving family, so instead of fighting pettily, you give her what she wants, ok."
N: "The problem is that, even if she didn't care, she takes what they say to heart," Niko explained, "she believes that one day she might hurt us, and that the neighbours are smart that they stay away from her. I don't know about you, but that sounds messed up."
"Niko, there you are," Johann sighed in relief when he found the boy, "could you please follow me back to your father. He would like to talk to you."
"Nein," the Saxon boy replied bluntly, and when the Mandorian tried to usher him towards the dining room, he shrugged Rowen's hand off.
"Nein," he snapped back at them, "lass mich los und lass mich in Ruhe! (let go of me and leave me alone!)" With that, the boy ran away, hiding away in a closet in one of the guest rooms and eating his ice cream in peace.
M: "Just leave him, Jo, we got to remember that he and Helena are full grown adults in children's bodies, we need to treat them as such," Rowen stated, "it's not fair to them to treat them like children when they're not, I didn't get to see them grow up, you, Mandara, and Derogan did, so you three know best how to handle them."
He sighed and rubbed his face, "we always believed in reincarnation, who would have thought that resurrection would be so hard. I'll have a chat with Wolfie, for now let's give Niko the space he needs."
N:"Alright then," Johann nodded, and as they made their way back, they could hear talking in the dining room, and found that Helena had struck up a conversation with Wolfgang.
"...and he would sometimes visit me when I was working in the infirmary," the young girl spoke, "he was scary but nice at the same time, it just took a while to break his shell."
"That's nice to know," the Saxon muttered, now much calmer than before, then he looked up when he saw the two Mandorians approaching, "did you find him?"
M: "Yes we did, but there is something we need to talk about first," Rowen stated, "You're probably not gonna like it, but please do your best to listen."
He and Johann joined them at the table and he repeated what happened and what he told his son, he knew that Wolfgang didn't like to be told how to do things, especially when it came to family, but he hoped that since Helena was here she could help him out a bit.
N: Wolfgang frowned a bit before letting out an exasperated sigh, slouching in his seat and rubbing his face.
"I...I just wanted the hatred in our family to stop with me," the Saxon admitted, "my Vater held a grudge against Mandoria for what happened to my Onkel, and I for a time hated Mandorians too. I just thought that, moving to Britain, I could bring a fresh start to my family, a new place where the old hatred wasn't there, but obviously today I was proved wrong."
"But Niko doesn't hate the Mandarians," Johann reasoned, "sure, he doesn't like Sara and Zach's parents, but that isn't everyone-"
"He said 'diese Leute müssen wieder verletzt werden'," the Saxon interrupted, "'these people need to be hurt again'. He's condemning the entire population of Mandara by the actions of the few. That was what I wanted to end with me, but clearly I didn't, and I failed to."
M: "It's far too early to say that, Wolfie, Niko had a bad day, he'll get over it and things will be fine," Rowen said, "he's only had a few interactions with people here, that's not a big enough sample size for him to permanently hate everyone here, just give him time to meet more people and I'm sure he'll come around. That goes for all of us, we need to take time to interact with the citizens of this country, otherwise we will forever be outsiders, can we agree to do that?"
N: "Yup," Helena nodded cheerfully, "I want to make as many friends as possible."
"I agree too," Johann agreed, smiling at his daughter's enthusiasm.
"Ich will nur dieses Land verlassen (I just want to leave this country)," Wolfgang muttered under his breath, but Johann heard him and scolded him, so he rolled his eyes, "fine, I agree to interact with the citizens of this country."
M: Rowen forced a smile, just like with MC, he didn't need to know what Wolfgang said to know what he said.
"We'll be heading to Britain in a few weeks, you just gotta hang in there until then," he said, "and don't you pretend that you haven't been having fun, I saw you at the gun range yesterday, I haven't seen you smile like that in ages."
N: "Well, it's simple really," Wolfgang smirked as he got up on his feet, "I was finally in a familiar environment, and I still had alcohol in my system, so maybe if I could get myself a beer-"
"Nein," Johann replied firmly.
"I was joking," the Saxon raised his arms in defeat, "I knew you would never agree, but what I first said was true. I was happy because I was in a familiar environment, and probably one of the very few environments this time still offers."
Lowering his hands, he looked around the room and frowned, "why hasn't MC come back yet? You already found Niko. Where's Adira?"
M: "Jo, I think Wolfie is okay to have a drink as long as one of us is with him, he just shouldn't drink with no one around," Rowen chuckled, "but I don't know where Adira and MC are, they're probably just doing her homeschool, I don't think it's anything to worry about."
N: "Fine," Johann exhaled, then pointed at the Saxon, "but you'll never leave under my watch."
"That's fine by me," Wolfgang smirked, "besides, we don't want to release Reck Kress, do we?"
"Never call me that ever again," the Mandorian grumbled.
While the adults talked, Helena decided to go and wander around, trying to find MC and Adira. Sure, he could be homeschooling her, but she also knew that the American never liked teaching, so she scoured the mansion to find anyone.
M: MC had found Adira and taken her to her room to calm her down, she told him about what she told Niko, it concerned him for sure but he would worry about it later.
She fell asleep in his lap by the time Helena found them, MC told her to be quiet, then asked what she needed
N: "I- I don't need anything," Helena whispered, "I just wanted to see if Adira and Niko are ok because they ran off."
Now that she has had a better look at Adira, she asked, "is she ok?"
M: "She's having a small crisis, but she'll be fine," MC stated, "You see, she was created to be some sort of hunting hound, so it's in her nature to want to sate that hunter instinct, but she kept it a secret from us and it hurt her. Now that I know, I'll talk with my husband to help her with her issue, and hopefully we can get it sorted out."
He rubbed his daughter's back a few more times then tucked her into bed, ushering Ella out so Adira could get some rest.
"I think Prudoria is going to be coming to visit tomorrow, are you excited," he asked her, "what was he like in your past life?"
N: "I am excited but also scared," Helena admitted, "everyone makes him sound so scary but he wasn't like that before. He was really nice and always helped us out; he even taught me different remedies and helped me become a nurse."
She lowered her head as they kept walking, "I don't really want to become a nurse anymore; at least I can choose something else, but I'm sad that Uncle Prudie isn't the same person who could help me."
M: "Well, he mostly became like this because you all had left, he was going through grief and sometimes the way some people handle grief isn't the best," the American explained, "he may not be the same now, he may never be the same again, but I think that seeing you and everyone else alive will help bring a little bit of that innocence back."
He patted her head reassuringly, "you know, women nowadays can do so many things that they couldn't back in your time, they can become doctors, teachers, serve in law enforcement and the military, they can even become politicians and senators, Mandara's last president was a female. Strive for big things, kid, the world is out there for you to explore, and even if it's a bit harder than you remember, that just means it will make you stronger than you could have ever imagined."
N: The young girl shrugged, "I would like to become a teacher, but I really don't want to be a nurse again." After a moment, she added quietly, "I don't want to be sick again."
M: MC raised a brow at what she said, he wondered if she just gave him a hint of how she died, but if that was the case then he wasn't going to ask about it.
"Well, if it makes you feel better, medicine has come a long way, if you do get sick, you'll get better in no time."
With that, he led the child back to her father, they all just meandered around and spent the rest of the day just hanging out and playing the occasional game in the gaming room. The evening came and went with nothing interesting happening, and soon it was morning, a morning where everyone was up quite early since they couldn't wait to see their friend and brother again, but also dreaded the thought that he could have brought along an old rival.
