A New Sister

M: Eclipse was in the kitchen with Niko, he was making breakfast and was teaching the boy how to use the stove to make french toast, he was fairly certain that Niko remembers how to cook but most likely not on modern appliances.

"-And when you hear the clicking sounds that's the sparker trying to light the gas, but you don't want to leave it on light for too long or the gas could blow a bit," he instructed, "as soon as the flame pops up you want to turn it to high, then you can put your pot or pan on the stove, now repeat to me what we never ever do when it comes to cooking spray and the stove."

N: "'Never spray near the open flame'," Niko answered. Due to his height, he had to stand on a stool just so that he was at a comfortable height to cook.

Once he got the flame working and was sure he didn't just start a fire that would burn the estate down, the Saxon boy carefully made the French toast with Eclipse's oversight. Once he was sure it was ready, he got himself a plate and transferred the toast onto it, then proceeded to get some blueberries and strawberries.

"Cooking is an art form," he muttered as he placed every berry, "appearance is as important as its taste. Perfekt."

Just as he was done, Wolfgang walked into the room and was confused at the sight of them, so Niko offered his father to try out his French toast.

"Shame it's associated with the French, but it looks appetising," the older Saxon commented, and after he ate a bit, he smiled, "woah, this is delicious. Who made this?"

M: "The little man is a natural, unsurprising since he has a whole lifetime of experience," Eclipse proudly declared, "He'd make his mother proud, I remember how good her cooking was."

He helped himself to one and was certainly impressed by it, "gosh, I oughta hire for my bakery, bud, these are heavenly."

N: Niko smirked, "my rates are high, so if you want me, you better get ready to pay a lot. Got to get paid somehow and these skills aren't cheap."

"Look at you activating your inner businessman," Wolfgang chuckled, ruffling his hair, then he genuinely smiled, "your Mutter would definitely be proud."

"She would," the Saxon boy asked, his tone indicating his slight surprise, "I learnt a lot of my cooking skills when-"

For a moment he hesitated, realising he was going to slip up, so instead he quickly hugged Wolfgang, "danke."

Wolfgang was taken by surprise for a moment, but quickly regained his senses and embraced his son. After hugging for a moment, he asked, "could you make more of those French toasts for the eternal girl. She hasn't eaten and would probably need me to help her eat. Could you make more and join me in the infirmary?"

Niko pulled away from the hug, and for a second Wolfe thought he failed, but then the boy vigorously nodded. "I'll do it," he replied, "and Eclipse can help me."

M: Eclipse smiled at the boy's enthusiasm, "It's good to see your caring side is still there, you always wanted to protect those who couldn't protect themselves. I'll be happy to help, we got some extra bread in the freezer, let me heat it up."

While he did that, he took the opportunity to inform Wolfgang about something, "hey you remember that raid we were talking about the other day, the one where Poldara and MA are going to Russia to possibly rescue Saxon and HRE? Well, Rus has given us some new information to confirm that they are there, and that they are gonna be moved to a different facility at the end of the week. So we're hoping to get to them before that happens, and we were hoping that you and/or Johann could come with us. You won't be doing any fighting and you will be protected, we just realize that Saxon at the very least is gonna be stand-offish, and we're hoping that having a familiar face will help keep him calm."

N: Wolfgang hummed, "well, if it would help with the mission, I'll go. Johann, on the other hand, that would probably depend on if he is fine being away from daughter."

The Saxon paused for a moment before adding, "what about HRE? Who's going to be there for him? He's always been the...silent type."

M: "I don't know if MA has a plan for him, all I heard about was for Saxon," Eclipse shrugged, "I know he's familiar with you so that might be enough, we'll just have to see. I'll let Poldara and MA know that you'll be coming along with them, I'll talk to Johann too when I get the chance, my dad might want to take you to his main military base to get you familiarized with modern warfare, the rest of us will look after the eternal while you're gone."

Mentioning the child reminded him of something, he dug in his pockets and pulled out a little beaded bracelet, just big enough for a child, "I flew back to where we found her to take a look around, I found this underneath a fallen tree where I guess she was taking shelter, it has her name on the beads."

N: Wolfgang took the bracelet and examined it, and when he read the name, his eyes widened in surprise before softly smiling.

"'Angel'," he smiled, tracing his finger along each engraved letter, "well, isn't that a pretty name? I'll make sure that she gets it back."

Now with that sorted, he turned around to see Niko busying himself, flipping the slices of toast while making sure he had enough fruit left since he had been snacking on them while cooking.

Once he was done, the two of them made their way towards the infirmary, with Niko holding the plate of French toast and strawberries.

When they arrived, Johann sighed in relief as he turned to face them. "You took your time," he muttered, "I was starting to think about what her name should be and I got a few ideas-"

"There's no need," the other shook his head before crouching down beside the Eternal's bed, holding out her bracelet.

"So, Angel, I guess this is yours," the Saxon spoke softly then he pointed at Niko, "this is my son behind me, and he has made you food to eat. Are you hungry?"

M: Little Angel cracked her eyes open at the sound of Wolfgang's voice, she quietly studied them and their offering but didn't do much else.

"She probably doesn't know that this is food, she's probably been living off berries and leaves all this time," the male nurse pointed out, "the strawberries might be familiar but it's not like they grow in the wild."

He plucked a strawberry from the plate and set it a few inches from Angel's face. She began sniffing at it to determine what it was, and slowly reached her head forward to eat it.

"Well, it's a start," the nurse smiled.

N: Wolfgang nodded in agreement, then he turned to Niko to see how he was.

The boy thought about what he could do, so he carefully placed the plate on a nearby table, and cut a bite size chunk off the French toast.

"She could eat this," he said, holding up the fork with the toast on its end.

"I don't know if she would eat it, but we'll see," Wolfgang shrugged and he grabbed the fork and held it out, "do you want this, Angel?"

M: Again Angel sniffed at what was placed in front of her, not making any attempt to sit up or even lift her head. She sniffed for a much longer time than with the strawberry and subtly licked the toast to make sure it was safe to eat, eventually biting it off the fork. Her eyes didn't widen per se but she definitely seemed to like it, finally attempting to sit up.

The nurse carefully helped her up and raised the pillow so she could lean against it while she sat up, she then held her mouth open so she could be fed.

N: Wolfgang chuckled when she kept her mouth open, so he returned the fork to Niko so he could cut the toast into bite sized chunks, and gradually fed it to her.

"Woah," Niko gasped, staring at the empty plate, "she was hungry."

"Of course she was," the elder Saxon smiled, then he ruffled his son's hair, "and that means she likes your cooking."

The boy grumbled under his breath as he fixed his hair, but he couldn't help but smile too.

M: "She's going to need a lot of food to get her into a healthy weight, yesterday we weighed her in at only 12 pounds, that is extremely unhealthy for a one year old, who should be around 23 to 24 pounds," the nurse informed, "we have a lot of work ahead of us, but from what I see I think she's in good hands."

As he talked he was preparing a bottle for Angel, when asked he explained, "we need to give her some antibodies and vitamins to help get her in a healthier state, we've learned from Adira that the best way to do that is through milk, she may be eight but she still prefers bottles."

He came back and was just about to give it to Angel but paused, he noticed how caring Wolfgang was to her, perhaps he should keep feeding her.

"Here, you're a parent, you're better at this than I am," he said, giving the Saxon the bottle.

N: Wolfgang's eyes widened with surprise, but he nodded and took the bottle.

"Well it seems like my job here is done," Johann spoke as he got up from his seat and stretched, then he patted his friend's shoulder, "you'll take good care of her, Wolfe."

The Saxon didn't say anything as the Mandorian left the room, so he turned to Angel, moving a bit closer and holding out the bottle to feed her.

"This will make you better, Angel," he spoke softly, "take a sip."

M: Now this was something she was semi familiar with, she recalled how her mother came home one day with a stolen bag of baby supplies, and how she tried to teach her how to drink out of something like this. She still had a little bit of trouble figuring out how to get the milk to come out of the bottle but was able to get the hang of it soon enough.

The nurse couldn't help but record a short video of this moment, it was just too cute, he couldn't share though as that would be breaking HIPAA. He knew deep down that Wolfgang wanted to keep Angel, there was just that spark of parental care in his eyes that gave it away.

"I guess that your son is getting a new little sister," he wondered, "you look like my adult daughter when she adopted her son, nothing but parental love."

N: "Hmm," was all Wolfgang uttered, not paying attention to what the nurse was saying, although Niko was just staring at the nurse, and for a while didn't say anything.

"A new sister," he repeated to himself, then he turned his attention back to his father and Angel, and he had to admit that the parental love was there. A smile slowly crept across his face, and he repeated, but now with gladness and not confusion, "a new sister!"

M: The nurse chuckled and ruffled Niko's hair, "I think she's going to fit in just fine, here, huh buddy, you're gonna be her protector, and a pretty good one too."

He checked his watch and figured that the patriarch of the household should be up by now, "I'll go ahead and inform Mr. Mandara of this revelation, when she's done with the bottle you are welcome to bring her out of the infirmary and introduce her to the manor, just make sure she stays off that leg. Before I forget, I might as well give you my name for future reference, I'm William Nero, though my colleagues often call me Liam, if you need any more help with her you can let me know."

N: Wolfgang turned and nodded, "nice to know you, William. We'll let you know if any problems arise."

Once the nurse left, the older Saxon turned to Niko and sighed, "it's too early to know that I would...could adopt her. Poldara even said that he took a while before adopting Adira."

"But you care for her," the boy countered.

"Well...ja, but still-"

"So we can do what we can to take her in?"

The Saxon didn't say anything as he returned his attention to Angel's bottle, unwittingly holding onto her hand.

M: Angel didn't understand yet what they were talking about, she could understand a little bit of speech but didn't have any concept of adoption, not that she cared at the moment anyway. She eventually finished her milk and scooted closer to Wolfgang's chest, curling her tail around his body and hugging him tightly, she clearly already made the choice that she wanted to stay with the Saxons.

N: Wolfgang for a moment didn't know what to do, and as he placed the bottle down, he glanced at Niko, who just had his 'well, you look at that' face on.

The Saxon carefully wrapped his arms around her and he rested his chin on her head. Letting out a long sigh, he closed his eyes as his mind wandered to the day he was going to be shipped to France to fight. Exactly as he and Angel were right now, he remembered how he gave his daughter one final hug before leaving.

"I'm sorry that your life became this," he apologised, although he wasn't sure as to why he was apologising; maybe on behalf of his fellow humans, "but I promise that you'll live a life of peace and happiness from now on."

M: The two female nurses let out quiet 'awws' as they watched from the other side of the room. Angel on her end began to shed tears and hugged Wolfgang closer, she clearly understood what he said and was happy for the reassurance, she hoped he meant that the life she would live would be with him and Niko, to say she imprinted on them would be an understatement.

She looked over to Niko and unwrapped her tail from his father, using it to bring the boy into a group hug, just to really seal the deal on this new family.
