Chapter 33

Katie hummed softly, her eyes closed as she rocked back and forth with Hikaru nestled against her. He tucked his face into her shoulder, his fists gripping the fabric of her nightshirt. Her arm was tucked under his bum as she rubbed his back. "There, there, Hikaru. I'm right here, sweetie."

Hikaru cooed tiredly, but didn't want to give into sleep. He pulled her shirt into his mouth and gnawed on it to keep himself awake. Katie sighed, then kissed the top of his head, his raven-black hair soft and tickled her lips.

"I'll take him if you want to sleep."

Katie glanced over Hikaru's head to Shiro. She shook her head and turned to him. "No, you have that meeting in the morning. You should be asleep."

Shiro chuckled and quietly approached her. "Katie, you've been getting up to take care of them every night since we brought them home so I can sleep. You need to sleep so you can take care of them while I'm at the meeting." Katie sighed and groaned at his logic. "Hand him to me and go get some sleep."

"Fine." She huffed and carefully, handled Hikaru up to Shiro. "But if Iris wakes up while you're in here, come get me." Shiro nodded and pat Hikaru's back as the boy began to fuss. The poor boy hated being separated from his mother. Katie combed the tips of her fingers through Hikaru's silky hair. "It's been a week and it's still feels strange not being pregnant anymore."

Her husband chuckled and shook his head. "Go get some rest, Katie."

"They're so precious!" Allura squealed as quietly as she could behind her hands. Katie smiled as she stepped into the nursery. There were two cribs-one on either side of the room. The walls were painted a soft purple and there was a white, circle rug in the center. Underneath the window on the opposite wall were built-in benches with cupboards and drawers in them.

Katie went over to the far crib where the fussing baby squirmed and whined. "It's okay, Hikaru," Katie cooed as she scooped up the bigger baby. "I'm right here." Hikaru calmed and nuzzled against his mother, fisting her light green cardigan.

Allura bounced over to the other crib and cooed. "Hello, Iris! Did your big brother wake you up? Hikaru was born first, right?" Katie nodded as Allura looked up at her for confirmation. Allura reached down into the crib and gently picked up the smaller baby. "By how long?"

Katie hummed, rubbing Hikaru's back. "Five and a half minutes, I think."

Iris hummed and cooed, curling her fingers in Allura's long, platinum hair.

"I found them!"

Katie and Allura both groaned as Matthew shouted then made his way into the nursery with a large grin on his face. "We were wondering where you two vanished to all of a sudden."

Allura sighed, letting Iris play with her hair. "You didn't have to shout, though." Matthew shrugged and leaned over to kiss her.

Katie groaned and covered her eyes. "Get a room, you two." Her brother and sister-in-law only laughed.

Shiro lay on the couch, Iris fast asleep on his chest and a book in his hand. Katie cooked as well as she could with one hand, her other arm occupied by Hikaru. Hikaru refused to release her when awake.

"I am spoiling you so badly," she hummed and kissed his head as she set the table, soft music playing from her phone on the counter. Katie then laughed softly and turned up the volume. "How about a dance, hm?"

Shiro raised a brow and lowered his book to look into the kitchen. Katie swayed along to the music with Hikaru cooing. Shiro chuckled and set his book aside. He placed both hands on Iris to keep her against his chest as he sat up, then got to his feet. Katie softly began to sing along as Shiro approached and grinned brightly up at him.

Rover happily watched them from where he lay next to Kuro.

Shiro shifted Iris to hold her with just one arm and placed his hand on her waist. Katie leaned into him, resting her head on his chest. She continued to sing softly to Hikaru as she swayed with Shiro.

Once the song ended and another began, they stopped swaying, but they stayed in the same position. Katie hummed, shifting slightly. "We should eat before the food gets cold." Shiro just nodded, closing his eyes as he held his family close.

"Maybe... Just one more dance," Shiro whispered. "Then we can eat."

Should I end it here? And sorry for the short chapter. :P
