Chapter 32
Katie panted and groaned, gripping Shiro's hand and the railing on the hospital bed. Shiro let her squeeze his prosthetic as he rubbed her arm or occasionally brushed her hair out of her face.
"The doctor said that you're doing good so far." He murmured, running the pad of his thumb under her eye.
She huffed and glared at the ceiling. "Yeah, but where the hell is she?"
Shiro chuckled, then frowned as she strained. "Your brother and your mother are on their way." Katie nodded and quietly thanked him. "I finally got the nursery done with Lance and Matt yesterday. I was going to take you in there to see it today, but I suppose you won't get to."
Katie laughed softly, then stopped to groan. "Why..? Why two whole... Weeks early?" She panted, rolling her head to the side. Shiro hummed, kissing her knuckles.
The doctor walked in. "Good news! One; this will be over soon, and two; your brother, mom and some friends made it!"
"Fuck!" Katie whined. Shiro raised a brow at her. "Is the Cuban shit-post here?"
The doctor chuckled and set her clipboard aside. "Tall, loud, dark skin, blue eyes?" Katie nodded. "Yes."
"Damnit!" Katie groaned. "He's gonna kill a child, Shiro!"
"No he won't."
"He very well could!"
"But he won't."
"Fuck, it hurts!"

Shiro wasn't sure why he was shaking or why he was so hesitant.
Was he nervous?
Was he scared?
Was he excited?
Was he unsure?
"Takashi..."
Shiro glanced over to his exhausted wife as she smiled up at him. Katie gestured to the nurse in front of him. "It's okay, Takashi... You won't hurt her." Shiro looked back up at the nurse, then to the light pink bundle in her arms.
The nurse smiled as she carefully handled the tiny baby into Shiro's arms. She was so light and so small. Shiro gulped and cradled her to his chest. He ran his thumb over the sleeping baby's smooth cheek and smiled as she rubbed at her cheek with her tiny fist. "She's... She's wonderful..."
The doctor helped Katie sit up a little more against a pile of pillows. "Mrs. Shirogane, would you like to hold your son?"
Katie nodded, her tired eyes sparkling as soon as she saw her bundle of blue. She held out her arms and took the baby boy. "Hi, sweetheart," she whispered once she had her baby cradled against her chest. "Hi..."
The nurses began to leave as the doctor approached them. "Would you like for me to invite your friends and family in?"
Katie nodded, but didn't look up. "Yes, please."
The doctor nodded, then left.
Shiro finally was able to tear his gaze away from his daughter to look up at his wife and son.
The baby boy's slightly narrow, grey eyes looked curiously up at Katie, his fingers curling and uncurling as he reached up for her. Katie smiled softly, her fingers caressing his cheek. Her hair was a mess, falling out of the bun it had been pulled into earlier. Tears slipped down her already damp cheeks.
She was beautiful.
At least, to Shiro she was.
"We never decided on names," Katie whispered, cupping the boy's chubby cheek. Shiro hummed and nodded, gaze returning to the sleeping baby in his arms. "Is Hikaru okay? I like it. It's one of the few names I remember from your list."
"If you want to name him Hikaru, his name is Hikaru."
Katie quickly looked up at him. "Hikaru Samuel. I want his name to be Hikaru Samuel."
Shiro looked back at her and smiled. Her eyes lit up. "Hikaru Samuel Shirogane it is."
She looked back down to her son, smiling widely. "Hikaru Samuel... I love you."
Both looked up at the door creaked open. Matthew was the first to step in and he was already in tears. "Katie-Kat!" He grabbed a chair and pulled it over to sit by Shiro. "You did it, sis..." Katie nodded, smiling as her mother came in, sobbing already.
Matthew reached out to Shiro. "May I?"
Shiro hesitated. Matthew's eyes gleamed excitedly, nervously, and hopeful. Shiro looked back down to his sleeping daughter as people began to fill the room. Slowly and tentatively, Shiro placed the little girl in Matthew's arms.
Matthew smiled down at her, holding her up for better support. "Hey, precious... You look just like your mama."
Lance and Allura looked over Matthew's shoulders and cooed. Shiro gulped and tugged on the ends of his sleeves. He suddenly felt anxious to have his little girl back in his arms.
"Do you have names for them?" Keith asked, voice soft as he stood on the other side of Katie.
Katie nodded. "Yes. Well, just for him. Hikaru Samuel."
Mrs. Holt smiled sadly as she sat on the edge of the bed. "After your father." Katie nodded. "I love it. My first grandchildren."
Allura reached down and pet the dark, chestnut hair atop the little girl's head. "So sweet. She's so tiny. I don't think I've ever seen a baby so tiny. Will she be okay?"
Katie chuckled. "She'll be fine. It's normal for twins to be smaller because they have to share that small space with another."
Shiro scratched his palm, eyes glued to the little girl. Lance groaned and rolled his eyes. "Okay, give the poor man his child back." Lance carefully took her from Matthew's arms, startling Matthew and Shiro. Lance gently cradled the baby as he stepped over to Shiro. "I saw how restless you were, don't act surprised. Here." He passed her down to her father, keeping his hand under her head until he was sure Shiro had her. "Also, I wanted an excuse to hold her."
Everyone laughed softly.
Katie looked up. "Where's Hunk and Shay?"
Allura sighed. "Hunk is working and Shay is sick, the poor thing."
"Okay. I hope she gets better soon." Katie pouted slightly. Allura nodded.
"One of the names you like is Iris, isn't it?" Katie glanced over to Shiro. "Do you like Iris Harmony?"
Katie smiled as Shiro looked up at her. "Yeah... It's beautiful."
