Chapter 2

Katie gasped as she was shoved, ramming right into one of her coworkers. She- of course- was the one to take the worst of it, despite both victims to Lance's actions being surprised.

"LANCE!" Katie shrieked and flailed, trying to grab onto something, but ultimately failing as she hit the carpeted flooring. "Fucker!" She hissed under her breath as she sat up, rubbing the back of her aching head. "I swear, I'm gonna- oh!" Katie blinked, her eyes widening at the hand held out in front of her.

Honey colored eyes traveled up the arm to look at the man's face, and blushed. "I'm sorry, I didn't see you there."

Katie gulped, then smiled sheepishly as she hesitantly took his outstretched hand. "No, I'm sorry about Lance. He can be a real prick."

Shiro chuckled as he helped Katie to her feet. "I noticed. Is he like that all the time?"

"Yeah." Katie scowled as Lance giggled behind Hunk- who was slightly confused and munching on a doughnut with a mug of coffee in his other hand. "It's annoying, but we all got used to it. We're just surprised Allura hasn't fired him."

"Hey!" Lance jumped out from behind Hunk and furrowed his brows as he glared at Katie. "Not cool! I'm the best here, that's why I'm not fired! I have the highest sale average and I'm in the ads!"

Katie rolled her eyes. "He thinks he's so high and mighty because he's in the ads, and we only let him believe he had the highest sale average."

"What!?"

Shiro chuckled softly and pat Katie on the shoulder. "I have to get back to work. It was nice talking to you, Pidge."

The short girl smiled up at Shiro and nodded. "You, too."

~

"Sooo," Katie leaned over, reading what Shiro was typing up, "I have a question." Shiro only smiled. "What's your whole name? Is Shiro your first name or your nickname?"

"That's two questions," the man laughed softly, leaning back in his chair. "But I'll answer. Shiro is part of my last name. My real name is Takashi Shirogane."

Katie whistled. "Neat name. Sounds familiar. Hey what's up with your glove? Why only wear one? Isn't it a little hot out?"

Takashi frowned, looking down at his 'gloved' hand. "It's... Not a glove. That's my arm. Well, prosthetic arm."

"Oh," Katie murmured, ducking her head. "I'm so sorry... I didn't know. I should have. I shouldn't have pried."

Her coworker shook his head and a reassuring smile curled his thin lips. "No, you're fine. But glove is a new one. Haven't been asked that before."

Katie smiled. "It'd be a pretty epic glove. I'd want one." This made Shiro laugh a little louder. "Anyway, I should probably get back to work, and you should probably answer your phone."

Katie laughed as she left the cubicle and Shiro fumbled for the ringing phone.

"Later, Shiro!"

~

"Pidge! I need your help!"

Katie blinked, then furrowed her brows as she leaned back to look at her boss rushing down the row of cubicles to get to her. "Allura? What do you need?"

The taller, more beautiful woman came to a stop beside the younger woman. "I need your help, tonight, Pidge! Lance gave the board meeting an idea and they all liked it! I need a fellow woman to come with me to the dance!"

The girl raised her brows. "'Dance?'" She repeated, then shook her head. "I don't do dances, Allura. I don't even remember the last time I wore a dress."

Allura whined pitifully and grabbed both of Katie's tiny hands. "Oh, please! Please, please, please! Pidge, you're the only woman I can actually talk with and kind of understand! Also, you're way super smart, so you can answer the way super smart questions they ask me!"

"Allura," Katie removed her headset, looking up at her boss. "I don't know."

"I'll buy your dress and give you a raise."

"I'm in."

Allura cheered in triumph. "Wonderful! The dance is Saturday night, so tonight- tonight is dress-shopping!" Allura's eyes sparkled excitedly and clapped. "I'll pick you up! I'll also bring some experts!"

"Oh, joy," Katie muttered, but still smiled.

~

Katie wasn't sure if she should wear something nice to go dress shopping or just wear what she normally wears. She sighed and decided on her normal wear.

Rover sat beside her on the couch, panting and wagging his tail happily as Katie gave him attention. "You stay here and protect mom, okay? She's in her room, so she might not come out for a while. I should be back before she comes out, anyway. Hopefully." She chuckled to herself and rubbed her nose against Rover's. "I hope this dress thing won't take too long." Rover yapped, which Katie laughed at but tried shushing him. "Quiet, boy. Don't disturb mom."

Four quick knocks sounded at the front door. Katie sighed softly and stood. "Here I go. I hope this is worth it, Rover," she muttered as she begrudgingly made her way to the door.

The short girl was expecting an overly-ecstatic Allura, but was met with a familiar, buff chest. Katie's eyes widened as she tilted her head back to look up. "Shiro?" Katie tilted her head to the side and raised a brow. "I didn't know you knew where I live? Should I be worried? Are you stalking me? What are you doing here?"

Shiro chuckled, raising his hands. "No, nothing like that, Pidge. I had no idea where you lived until now. Allura brought me along saying I could give my insight. I have no idea what for, though."

Katie dead-panned, then leaned and scowled at her too-joyful boss waving rapidly at her from her car. Of course... Katie sighed softly and stood straight. She shook her head and smiled up at Shiro. "Let's get going then, hm?"

The taller man returned the smile and nodded.

~

Katie scowled deeply as Lance practically shrieked Latino music in her ear. She pressed as close as she could to the car door to get as far from Lance as possible. Hunk, Allura, and Shiro were also not amused with Lance screeching along to the Spanish lyrics.

They hadn't even arrived at the store Allura wanted to go dress shopping at, and Katie was already despising this trip.

"LANCE FUCKING MCCLAIN!" Katie screamed, fearing for all their ear drums. "Shush!"

Lance shrunk back in his seat as Allura and Hunk sighed in relief. "Thank you, Pidge," Allura murmured, relaxing at the wheel.

"You're welcome."

Shiro chuckled. The soft, deep sound make Katie blush and stare out the window.

Soon, Allura parked and cheered, excitedly bouncing out of the car. "Come on, come on!" The short girl groaned, dragging herself out of the car.

"Please remind me why you brought Lance," Katie muttered, trotting over to Allura so Lance wouldn't start picking on her.

Allura hummed, affectionately taking Katie's hand. "Hunk and Shiro are here to give input on what they think of us in the dresses picked out. Lance is an expert in knowing what looks good on anyone. Basically, Lance is picking our dresses and we're trying then on and giving Shiro and Hunk a fashion show!" Katie furrowed her brows. My boss is way too happy to try on dresses with me.

They wandered into the store, and Katie paused. "No." She stated and tried turning around. "No, absolutely not, I'm not doing this! I changed my mind!"

Lance and Hunk held Katie before she tried escaping and dragged her closer to the rows of dresses. "No! I wanna go back home! I don't want to do this! This is torture!"

Holding Katie became Hunk's job as Lance and Allura sifted through the dresses, hanging the dresses they liked or deemed right for Katie on their unoccupied arm. Shiro only watched in amusement.

Once several dresses were picked out, Hunk carried his struggling coworker to the dressing rooms and carefully dropped her in a stall. She pouted up at him and he only grinned, ruffling her hair. Katie hesitantly took the dresses she was handed and locked the stall door. "I hate this, just so you all know," she grumbled, hanging the five dresses up.

Allura giggled while Hunk and Lance laughed.

Katie sighed softly, scrunching her nose at the dresses. "Ugh... Ew, pink... Really, Lance? ... The red one isn't so bad, neither is the green one... Do I have to try all of them on!?"

Lance piped up before Allura could answer. "Of course! I picked all the perfect ones out! Just your size and your colors!"

"I hate pink," she quipped, holing up the frilly pink gown. "And I hate ruffles."

"Then try it on first. Get it over with."

The girl whined, then slowly started to shed her clothes. She tugged on the dress, careful not to rip the fabric, and zipped up the back. "Lance, this dress is so fucking ugly."

"Come out, I wanna see," Allura encouraged. Katie could see the end of the blue dress Allura must have tried on first. Katie sucked in a breath and stepped out.

"This dress makes me feel like a Disney princess, and I hate them. They're completely unrealistic."

Allura and Lance also sneered at the dress. "You're right. Your boobs don't fill out the breast of the dress."

"Lance," Shiro firmly scolded the lanky man who only shrugged.

"It looks nice," Hunk offered, "but it's not very 'Pidge.'" Katie smiled and thanked Hunk before shrinking back into the stall and yanking off the dress. She tossed it over when Lance asked for it. Katie groaned and whined as she pulled the dress up over her body and tried to zip it. "Lance! This dress is too small! It's crushing me and it's not even zipped all the way!"

"Maybe you did something wrong. Come out."

"No! I'm not!"

"I'll help you figure it out!"

"You got me a freaking Barbie dress! It'll never fit me!"

"Get out here!"

Katie groaned, throwing the stall door open and glaring at the lanky man. "This is a damn Barbie dress," she sneered, turning around to show him that she barely got the zipper halfway up. "And now I can't unzip the little I could zip! It's stuck!"

Lance, however, was too busy laughing on the floor while Hunk and Allura scolded him. Katie gasped and jolted as warm fingertips traced over her skin just above the zipper.

"I'll help," Shiro offered, pressing his flesh hand to her back and pinching the zipper between his index and thumb of his prosthetic. Katie gulped and nodded. Shiro gently tugged on the zipper, jerking it from where it had caught, then pulled it down. "There you go." Shiro gently pat Katie's head as she turned to look up at him.

"Thank you." Shiro grinned and nodded as Katie backed into the stall. She slowly dropped the dress and held up the red dress. She bit her bottom lip and wiggled into the dress. Katie zipped up the back of the dress and then examined herself in the mirror.

"Come on out, sweetie," Allura coaxed, right at the door. Pidge unlocked the door and stepped out. Lance had calmed down from his for of laughter as he examined Katie.

He hummed and waved his hand. "I thought the empire waistline would look really good, and it does, but it looks too much like High School Prom."

Hunk and Shiro nodded, Shiro's eyes lingering much longer than needed. Katie nodded in agreement, her eyes on her newer coworker. "Shiro?"

The older man's head jerked up in response, snapped out of his trance. "Oh, I agree with Lance. It's beautiful, formal, but more High School than business."

Allura giggled as Katie blushed. "Pidge, go on! You have two more dresses to try on! Try that green one!"

Katie nodded, shutting the door once more. She hung the red dress up and slid on the simple green dress. She zipped up and tied the back, then smoothed the shirt. Katie found the dress oddly comfortable as it hugged her waist. She placed the wrap over her bare, slightly freckled shoulders. I actually really like it, she thought, twisting slightly on her toes. Katie liked the flow of the skirt. The petite girl hummed softly, carding her fingers through her hair. "Allura... I really like this one."

"You do!?" Allura yelped, stumbling around in her stall and rushing out. "Let me see!"

Katie's fingers hesitated over the lock before she twisted the knob and opened the door. Allura gasped and squealed excitedly. "Pidge, you're gorgeous!" Her boss shouted, admiring the dress with wide eyes. "I knew you'd like it! I picked it!"

Lance jumped up. "Shoes! You need shoes!" He dashed off and came back in record time with three pairs of shoes her size that would match. "I got white, cream, and mint green. I didn't like any of the black ones." He lay out the shoes and Katie slipped into the mint flats. "Too big and I don't like how it meshes with the colors. Try the white ones."

Katie rolled her eyes and switched shoes. She stood in the pearly white, three inch platforms. "These will kill my feet while there."

"Those are perfect!" Lance and Allura shouted at the same time. Allura whipped her head to face Shiro and Hunk. "So? What do you guys think?"

"Pidge, you're beautiful!" Hunk engulfed the much smaller girl in a hug. She laughed, returning the embrace.

"Thanks, Hunk." She looked up at him, then made sure the dress wasn't ruined, although she trusted Hunk not to.

"What about you, Shiro?" Lance lightly elbowed the older man. "You're making goo-goo eyes and your cheeks are red, so one could only assume you not only like the dress, but the cute girl wearing the-"

"Lance," Shiro interrupted, clearing his throat. He smiled softly as he approached the lightly blushing Katie. "You look lovely, Pidge."

Her blush darkened as she twisted her toe into the tile and looked at her feet. "Thank you."

Allura abruptly squealed giddily, causing Katie and Shiro to jump in surprise. "We found you your perfect outfit! We'll put the other dresses up and buy this after I figure out which dress I want! Get back in your clothes now!" Allura eagerly shoved Katie into the stall and shut the door. "Oh, I'm so happy!"
