12 - INVINCIBLE

KAELYN MAY BE INVINCIBLE, but her morale was not. She came across the interior of what must have once been the Avengers compound and saw Star-Lord becoming overpowered by two of Thanos's soldiers. As quickly as she could, she took one of them out with her spear while the masked hero did his best to take out the other. The soldier on top of Quill was taken out at the last moment by a blaster shot. Seeing the danger over here eradicated, she glanced at the green-skinned woman facing Quill. Seeing a glance of recognition in his eyes, she left the moment alone.

There were so many soldiers on this battlefield she did not know. Some she had gotten a chance to meet outside of life-threatening circumstances, like Bruce Banner who often frequented the compound. As well as Black Widow, although Kaelyn had yet to see her in the battle. She hoped the woman wasn't wounded, but it would be hard to know until the dust cleared.

Despite the familiar faces, there were many she fought alongside but had never seen in her life. Kaelyn had only recently heard of the true wonders of Wakanda, but now seeing their powerful and decorated soldiers she wondered how they had ever hidden in the shadows. Same with those of the Mystic Arts, Kaelyn was utterly fascinated by them. However, now was not the time for fascination. It was time for war.

She could hear multiple people speaking over the comms in their ears, but it was all gibberish to her as she was consumed by battle. Kaelyn amazed herself with how many people she could take out at once. Being invincible had its perks in situations. However, the inability to get harmed was not equivalent to the inability to get overwhelmed.

Soon enough as soldiers began to flush around her, Peter was by her side, taking them out along with her. His webs clung to a solider and brought his face to meet the business end of her spear while she used her jet propulsors to turn their heads to dust.

They watched as Clint Barton ran past with the gauntlet, passing it to the Black Panther as he sprinted through the soldiers to get it to the quantum tunnel. Kaelyn was not a big believer in God, but oh she was praying they would make it in time. She couldn't lose this. Not again.

She blinked and Peter was no longer by her side. Alone in the battlefield, she wanted to panic, but she knew she had to keep her head on straight. Her eyes caught a glance of a woman whose powers burned amber threw rubble the size of houses at Thanos and he sliced through them with ease. Looking away from that, she could see the gauntlet discarded on the ground in the heat of the battle. Knowing what she had to do, she ran for it while Thanos was distracted.

Holding the gauntlet in her arms it was heavy, almost enough to drop it, but she didn't spend hours in training for her to not be able to lift a hunk of metal. She threw the gauntlet back to the Black Panther and he caught it, but not before getting caught in a storm of rocks being caused by one of Thanos's creatures.

Cursing to herself, she sighed with relief when the Panther tossed the gauntlet for Peter to catch it with his webs and swing out of harm's way. Watching as he fought of tens of soldiers with one hand still on the gauntlet all she could think to herself was, I am so in love.

She knew he could handle his own, but still, she rushed to defend him. Before she could get to him, fire rained down from the sky and all that was in her eyesight was dirt and rubble.

"Peter!" she screamed, but nothing could be heard over the sounds of torture and destruction.

"Uh, is anyone else seeing this?" a female voice flooded through the comms. It must have been Pepper Potts, Kaelyn had met her many times. Hearing her familiar voice in this time, even with the worried tone it carried, brought Kaelyn a feeling of warmth. Pepper had always felt like a mother to her, at least, more than her actual mom ever did.

However, the worry wrought in Pepper's voice got Kaelyn's attention. She saw water rushing into the battlefield and nature was out for blood. She watched in horror as Dr. Strange stood alone to hold it off, creating a hurricane with his power alone. God, she needed to master the Mystic Arts.

Breaking her attention away from the hurricane was Peter's cry for help. Rushing into action, she searched for him as she heard Captain America say, "Hey, Queens, heads up!"

Seeing the scene, Kaelyn could tell she wasn't needed. Thor's hammer flew through the air and Peter caught it with his web. As he fell to the ground, Pepper caught him. She sighed with relief, glad she could focus on the soldiers right in front of her. All she needed was to know that Peter was safe. However, she lost her focus when Peter crashed to the ground with no one to help him. Sprinting as fast as she could, she lept from rubble to rubble to get to him. He crouched in a fetal position, hiding from the dirt. As she leaned over him, a shield protruded from the back of her suit. She smiled, knowing Tony had programmed that even though he knew she was invincible. He always knew when she might need something.

Forgetting about the gauntlet, she watched over Peter, not bothering to watch for soldiers anymore. Her only priority was protecting him.

"Kae, Kae, the... the gauntlet," Peter struggled to get out, blood pouring out of his nose and his voice ragged.

"It's okay, it's okay, I've got my eye on it," she reassured him. She did, but now, no one's attention was on the gauntlet as the fire ceased. Instead, it aimed towards the clouds. Both of them looked up as something tore through the center of Thanos's ship in a fiery display. The ship crashed into the water and Kaelyn sighed with relief as the firing ceased.

The woman who had singlehandedly taken that ship down, Cap had referred to her as Danvers, landed directly in front of Peter and Kaelyn as the boy clung to the gauntlet as soon as he could reach it.

"Hi," Peter spoke first, "I'm Peter Parker."

"Kaelyn Albright," she introduced herself as well, respect clear in her tone.

Danvers, with a smile on her face, said, "Hey, Peter Parker. Kaelyn Albright. You guys got something for me?"

The two of them stood and overlooked the army ahead, Peter saying, "I don't know how you're gonna get it through all of that."

"Don't worry," a new voice joined as superheroes surrounded them. Kaelyn watched in awe as women surrounded her. Things like this reminded her why she did it. To help, to be something more than herself. "She's got help."

With pride, the clan of women (and Peter) faced the army unfazed. A smile crawled onto Kaelyn's face. Her morale returned, she felt invincible.
