adventures at pilgrim world

The bus ride took less than 30 minutes to reach town before it came to a complete stop, Meredith grimacing at the idea of working at pilgrim's world. Her eyes scan the town, immediately spotting a familiar face. A small smile breaks out on Meredith's face as she skips towards Xavier whose arms were crossed as he studied a blank wall. Meredith's eyebrows furrow as she studies the wall beside him, gently grazing his arm to get his attention. "Whatcha lookin at?' She hums towards the tall boy who purses his lips and goes to reply before he was cut off by Wednesday.
"Why are you both staring at a blank wall?" She bluntly asks, analyzing the wall before her cold gaze sets on the two of them. Xavier scoffs, his arms still crossed as he replies, "It wasn't blank last outreach day" He frowns and answers in a monotone voice. Meredith glances towards Wednesday who replies for the both of them, "Are you still angry that we rejected your invitation?" She glares up at the tall boy who shrugs his shoulders, glancing towards Meredith.
"I don't know, I did go out on a limb for the both of you" He shrugs. Meredith rolls her eyes at his attitude, lifting up on her tippy toes to poke the tall boy on his cheek. "Hey!" Xavier exclaims, surprised at the nudge whilst Meredith pouts, "Don't be mad at us pretty boy, clubs just aren't our thing. And, I may have wanted to join but someone already answered for me..." Meredith glares softly at Wednesday who shrugs her shoulders, "Like you said, clubs are not our thing" Wednesday states before turning to Xavier who was lightly blushing at Meridith's nickname for him. Wednesday holds back a reflexive gag at the display, "Besides, we both have pressing issues that we need to deal with, right Meredith?" Wednesday asks, as if to remind the troublemaker of what they were here to deal with. Meredith hums in acknowledgement, shaking her head at Wednesday as she crosses her arms, a determined look on her face as she turns to Xavier. "Right! We have an important mission to accomplish!" Meredith exclaims, lighting nudging Wednesday in encouragement.
"Really? And what is this important mission that you two need to accomplish?" Xavier asks, turning towards the two girls in curiosity but more so, that he could get a better view of Meredith. Wednesday is quick to reply, "Tracking down the monster that killed your roommate", Meredith nodding in agreement and quickly adds with a shake of her head, "Poor Rowan, we must bring justice to his death and find this monster!" She exclaims, shaking Xavier to illiterate how important the problem was. Xavier blinks as he gently loosens himself from Meredith, qucik to scowl at Wednesday, "Oh my god, for the last time, Rowan was expelled" He glares. Meredith shakes her head, becoming serious as she stares up at a frustrated Xavier, "Xavier, that monster killed Rowan back in the woods. I saw it happen with my own two eyes, Rowan is dead and whoever is posing as him, is an imposter" Meredith states, quick to realize how frustrated Xavier was getting with the whole ordeal as he shakes his head at her. "No, no, no, He was expelled and sent back home. Everyone saw him leave" He explains in frustration, wanting the story to be done with. Wednesday frowns, "Have you spoken to him since?' Wednesday asks causing Xavier to look away from Meredith, "I texted him a few times, but I never heard back. Figured, he wanted to put Nevermore behind his back" Xavier states looking between the two.
"Or he's dead" Wednesday bluntly states causing Meredith to tsk at the girl, shaking her head at her bluntness, watching as Xavier tensed up. "I don't get why you're so obsessed with him... just stop" Xavier firmly states, shaking his head. Meredith goes to comfort him, but he pulls away with a shake of his hand.
Suddenly, there was an intimidating presence beside Meredith. "Is there a problem?" a familiar voice asks causing Meredith to look up. Noah stood tall, a glare on his face as he evaluates the scene, looking between the two girls to Xavier, who's frown deepens. "We're fine, Harte. Go back to what you were doing" Xavier frowns, his dislike for the werewolf apparent in the way he rolls his eyes. "Are you girls, okay? Mere? Wednesday?" Noah asks, ignoring Xavier to check on the two girls. Meredith smiles brightly at Noah, " We're doing great! Thank you, Noah, you're good to go" Wednesday nods in agreement, "Besides, we would be able to handle the situation if needed. There was no threat" Wednesday states blankly, walking away from the trio to find Enid. Noah chuckles at her display, before saying his goodbyes to Meredith, "I'll see you around Mere!" Noah gently ruffles her hair before returning to his pack, completely ignoring Xavier who grimaces at the display.
"I can't believe your friends with that guy" Xavier gags causing Meredith to turn back to him with raised eyebrows, "What happened to grumpy pretty boy?" Meredith questions, following Xavier to where the rest of the students gathered to listen to principal Weems. Xavier shrugs, jealousy brewing in his stomach, "Sorry about that, I'm just frustrated about this whole Rowen situation and Wednesday is not making it any better. I'm sorry that I freaked on you, I know you meant well" Xavier apologizes quietly as to not interrupt principal Weems speech. Meredith smiles up at the tall boy causing an eruption of butterflies to go off in his stomach at the action. "It's alright, I forgive you pretty boy" Meredith smiles, watching as the crowd disperses to find their assignments for outreach day. Meredith grimaces at the idea of wearing those ugly pilgrim dresses, she doesn't understand why she has to wear something so outdated.
"What's wrong?" Xavier asks, walking beside the grimacing girl. "I have to work pilgrim world.." Meredith whines, suddenly clutching onto Xaviers arm, eyes wide, "I'm going to look UGLY in that pilgrim dress" Meredith exclaims, looking disarranged the prospect of having to wear the pilgrim dress. Xavier chuckles, face warm at her touch, as he looks down at her, "You would never look ugly, you're too pretty Meredith" He shyly smiles.
Meredith could feel herself become jittery at his comment, a strange feeling erupting in her chest as her face becomes warm with a blush. A sly smirk spreads across her face to hide her nervousness at his comment, clutching his arm tighter, "You flirtin with me pretty boy?" Meredith slyly asks watching in amusement as Xavier stumbles over his words, becoming even more flushed than before as he tries to find the right words without embarrassing himself in front of a pretty girl. Luckily, Ajax spots the two and comes to aid his blushing friend, patting his back in greetings and fist bumping Meredith. "Meredith, you're embarrassing the poor boy, give him a break" Ajax smirks, nudging Xavier who huffs. Meredith laughs, feeling carefree in the presence of the two boys. Their carefree moment was interrupted when a teacher interjected, "Ladies and Gentlemen, please get to your assignment" The unknown teacher urges them to their assignment, reminding Meredith about pilgrim world and her whole ordeal. A grimace forms on her face, pouting at the two boys as she sadly trudges her way to pilgrim world, alone.
Her eyes wander around the town, watching as the townspeople put together outreach day. Kids were running down the streets, giggling as they play together. Meredith smiles softly at a pair of siblings, a brother and sister, watching as the older brother stops to aid his crying sister, helping her up and offering his candy to her. Meredith smiles at the scene, a tugging feeling in her heart as a reminder of her own older brother, she purses her lips at the thought, hands clenching as if to will the memories away. Flashes of her childhood appear before her eyes, a taller boy with a charming smile and an outreached hand towards her. Meredith, shakes her head to will the memory away, becoming sad at the thought of her older brother. She huffs, "Seriously, get a grip Mere" She mumbles to herself, kicking rocks on the pavement as she approaches pilgrim world. "I guess everyone already went ahead..." Meredith mumbles to herself as she tries to spot any Nevermore kids.
Meredith walks around, passing tourist and townspeople, before she spotted a slightly familiar curly black-haired boy. It was Eugene, Wednesdays newly formed friend. Meredith remembers Wednesday speaking of a boy from the bee club that she joined, speaking as fondly as she could about him. A smile spreads across her face as she approaches the boy but before she could, three unfamiliar boys roughly snatch the smaller boy away from his fudge. Her eyebrows furrow as she watches them crowd around him on the stage, fear flashing across Eugenes eyes making him appear like a kicked puppy. Meredith steps forward, watching in disbelief as Eugene vomits all over one of the boys. Said boy, angrily shouts, roughly throwing Eugene into the stockade.
"Hey, stop! Yes, you three idiots!" Meredith shouts, running towards the stockade and stopping the boy from closing it on a trembling Eugene. The poor boy was trembling with fear, Meredith frowns, "What do you think you're doing? He did nothing wrong!" She angrily shouts, becoming angrier when the boys laugh at her. "Aw, are you coming to save him? What are you gonna do? Cry..?" They mock her, pushing each other as they laughed, watching in amusement as Meredith's face flushes red in anger.
"Oh, you wanna see what I can do.. come at me, pilly boy" Meredith glares as the boy pushes Eugene out of the stockade, roughly grabbing Meridith's shoulder. Meredith quickly stomps on the boy's foot, grabbing his arm and flipping him onto the ground in one swift movement without any magic. She huffs as he struggles to stand up, swinging his fist towards her face. Meredith dodges his punch, smirking at his struggle "Is that all you got?" Meredith mocks the boy, dodging another punch, swiftly grabbing his arm and pushing him into the stockade, successfully locking him in. She glares down at the struggling boy, leaning down to be at eye level, "No one likes a bully and next time I see you do something dumb like that again, I'll make sure it hurts a lot more than this. Understood?" Meredith glares into his eyes, watching in satisfaction as he hurriedly nods his head. "Good" Meredith mumbles, looking over her shoulder to see the other two boys staring in disbelief at the scene.
She stands up tall before she quickly takes a step, pushing her arms out, "BOO!" she yells, scaring the two boys off and leaving just her and Eugene. Eugene huffs, looking towards Meredith who shakes her head at the two running boys. She turns to the smaller boy, a warm smile on her face as she reaches her hand out as an introduction. "Hello Eugene, my names Meredith Carter. It's nice to officially meet you!" Meredith exclaims happily, already feeling protective over the smaller boy who reminded her so much of Pugsley. Eugene shakily smiles, still trembling over the encounter as he shakes Meredith's hand, pushing his glasses up his face, "I know who you are, Wednesday told me about you" Eugene smiles, jumping at Wednesdays sudden appearance, "There you are...and what happened to you?" She questions, looking over Eugenes vomit covered physique and the trembling boy in the stockade.
"Let's debrief while Eugene cleans himself up.." Meredith trails off, suddenly tensing up at the feeling of another presence. She quickly turns around, scanning the area as her senses go off at the feeling of a dark presence. Her eyes jump towards the woods, scanning the tree line for anything out of place, her hands flexing as her heart begins to race. The voices begin to go off in her head causing chills to run up her spine, warning her of the danger ahead. Was it the monster? Someone else? What was it?
"Meredith?" Wednesday calls out her name, but it was muffled as blood rushes against her eardrums, the only thing running through Meredith's head was the voices chanting one thing.
